Nestled in the heart of Beverly Hills, in the former Paley Center for Media, resides Mr Brainwash Art Museum: a palace of pop art that is equal parts provocative and fun. Thierry Guetta, better known as Mr Brainwash, launched the museum in December 2022. Born in France in 1966, Guetta obsessively filmed everything around him until street art became a part of his very fiber. Raised by his cousin, the artist Invader, and propelled into the spotlight via Banksy’s Exit Through the Gift Shop, Guetta traded his camera for spray paint and embraced his alter ego Mr Brainwash. Critics still debate: genius or prank? But his 2008 debut, Life Is Beautiful, was a smash. He’s since crisscrossed the globe, using positivity as his artistic superpower!
Walking through the museum is like entering a Willy Wonka factory run by a street‑art sprite on a sugar high. Many of the themed rooms are Insta‑bait including the likes of a walk‑in Van Gogh's Bedroom in Arles, mash‑up portraits of Marilyn, Einstein, Banksy and Batman crowding psychedelic walls, a Star Wars gallery manned by Stormtroopers, and a mirrored sunflower infinity room that makes you dizzy‑happy. While giant metal origami sculptures, suspended Porsche replicas, a life‑size dinosaur made of books, and mirrored hallways stretch reality in all sorts of playful ways. It’s immersive, interactive, and unapologetically whimsical, an art experience that will stay with you forever, perfectly echoing Guetta’s bright-eyed mantra, “Life Is Beautiful.”
