One of my favorite things about the Metrolink SoCal Day Pass is how much freedom it gives you to get out of LA without having to deal with driving, gas, traffic or parking. For my trip, I started at the Glendale station and took Metrolink to Ventura, using the connecting Amtrak Pacific Surfliner as part of the trip. For a day of exploring, it felt pretty incredible to just sit back, look out the window and let someone else handle the driving while I headed toward the coast.

The SoCal Day Pass makes that even easier because it gives you unlimited travel throughout the Metrolink system for the day, including eligible Amtrak Pacific Surfliner connections. When I took my trip, the pass was $15 on weekdays and $10 on weekends and holidays; beginning October 5, 2026, the price changes to $19 on weekdays and $12 on weekends and holidays. You can purchase the pass directly through the Metrolink app or at a ticket machine at the station. If you use the app, just purchase and activate the ticket before boarding.

The best part for me was what the pass allowed me to do once I got there. From the Ventura station, I was able to turn the day into a little walking adventure: checking out the promenade, taking in the ocean views, hanging out around the Ventura Pier, grabbing some food and drinks, and finding a few other cool spots along the way. Instead of the train simply being transportation to get somewhere, it became part of the experience. There’s something really nice about being able to wake up, buy a pass, hop on a train and suddenly have a completely different city to explore for the day.
