Once home to the OUE Skyspace Observation Deck and the much ballyhooed glass slide atop the US Bank Tower in DTLA, Restaurant 71 Above (coincidently located on the 71st floor, what are the chances?) re-imaged the closed down space to create Vista Patio on 69, providing a stunning 900 foot tall al fresco dining experience offering a panoramic view of the greater Los Angeles area.

Look, if you’re coming here, it’s all about the view which certainly does not disappoint. But the food isn’t half bad either. But carnivores should definitely be warned in advance since its strictly a vegetarian affair, save for two add-on dishes in the form of beef tartare & yellowfin credo. Also of note, it’s a $54 prix-fixe menu (not including the aforementioned add-ons, drinks, or dessert) consisting of a collection of small Mediterranean-centric sharable plates including humus, salads, marinated feta, an assortment of pickled veggies and plenty of pita.

Surprisingly, the base meal is pretty filling considering I wasn’t quite sure how satiated I would be initially. The cocktails are solid, if not spectacular. But if you like a little heat in your drink, I definitely recommend the “Hollywood” which is a Jalapeño infused Vodka drink with Lillet Blanc, Grapefruit Cordial, and lime. It’s an expensive dining experience for sure. Our bill for a party of two which included just the base menu and two cocktails each exceeded $200 (gratuity is automatically applied). So I would definitely wait for a special occasion to attend. But on a clear day or night, the views certainly justify the splurge.
