    • Temperatures upon reaching Sandia Peak are 10-15 degrees cooler than ground level, so factor that in when considering what to wear.

    • Access to Sandia Peak Ski Area can also be accessed via the tram. Ski season is typically late November through early April. Please see their website below (under “resources”) for more info regarding skiing at Sandia Peak.

    • Reservations for TEN 3 Restaurant strongly recommended.

    • If you’re getting alcoholic beverages, remember that you’re at a higher altitude so drinks will be more potent.

Located on the eastern edge of Albuquerque, New Mexico; the Sandia Peak Tramway is the longest aerial tram in North America (and third longest in the world)! Opened in 1966, the 50 passenger tramcar ascends 3,819 feet to its final elevation of 10,378 feet in the Sandia Mountains. All told, the tram takes approximately 15 minutes to reach the peak, and while the views during the ride are breathtaking (if you can score a window view, otherwise you might get stuck in the middle of the tram and be forced to look at the back of everyone’s head instead because they pack the tram like sardines), the peak itself is certainly just as memorable. More amazing views await when you reach the top along with 26 miles of hiking trails, highlighted by a short 2 mile trail (out & back) to the Kiwanis Cabin; a spectacular stone shelter that rides the edge of the ridgeline. The peak also boasts an impressive restaurant and bar called TEN 3. We definitely enjoyed a couple of cocktails before and after our hike and highly recommend it if you feel inclined for some alcoholic libations.
