The artistic creations of Michael Murphy are like none other, representing a style that is uniquely his own and must be witnessed in person to fully appreciate… and grasp. Murphy refers to his discipline as “Perceptual Art” which manipulates the viewer’s perspective (and seemingly the rules of physics) to create images that exist in a three dimensional space, both as a singular piece and the sum of its parts all at the same time. Whatever brand of wizardry that Murphy employs, his art is perpetually transforming itself right in front of your eyes as you move around each exhibit.

His Los Angeles exhibit features a collection of 12 pieces, all of which are truly stunning and completely different from one another to avoid a sense of repetition. I’ve done the courtesy of only revealing two of these in this post in order to keep most of the surprise alive when you visit for yourself. And trust me, you’re going to want to visit before the exhibit leaves!

Metamorphosis: This electric butterfly is a single illusion sculpture consisting of 208 polycarbonate LED tube lights. The piece is intended to represent rebirth and transformation.
