Located just a few miles away from Venice Beach, the Venice Canals are a series of man-made waterways built in the early 1900s by Abbot Kinney to create a “Venice of America” inspired by the Italian city of the same name. Already one of the must-visit location in all of Los Angeles, strolling along the Venice Canals feels like you're stepping into a Claude Monet painting. Having visited many times, I’ve often wondered if the possibility existed to actually get on the water itself without being a resident.

The answer to that question is yes! Thanks to an Airbnb experience offered by hosts; Raleigh, Mark & Jake (link below under “resources”), you have the unique opportunity to take an hour-long kayak tour through the canals, which offers a whole new perspective of this special neighborhood.

Once you set out, you’ll immediately feel the calming effect of the quiet waters and the beautiful scenery around you. As you paddle through the canals, you’ll pass by all the charming houses that live on the banks as your guide fills you in on the history of the canals, along with various facts and figures.

Kayaking on the Venice Canals offers a glimpse into Los Angeles’ past & present that even many locals overlook. So whether you’re looking for a peaceful retreat or a fun activity, this amazing tour makes for a wonderful afternoon on the Westside and you’ll feel like you’ve escaped the city without actually having to leave.
